Maw-grunta
Maw-gruntas are monstrous porcine beasts native to Ghur, many times larger and somehow more belligerent than the common grunta.[1a]
Origins
Many orruks believe that maw-gruntas originate from the godbeast Shattatusk, the great ice boar that served as the mount of Gorkamorka.[1d]
Biology
A fully grown maw-grunta is twice as tall as an orruk at the shoulder. It is several tonnes of porcine fury with three stomachs capable of handling most anything that it can scoop into its immense, four-tusked mouth. Maw-gruntas normally feed on the move, since avoiding obstacles is alien to their piggy mind and they seem to be incapable of staying still for any appreciable length of time. They are hardy beasts, capable of surviving in almost any environment - though many environments cannot survive them.[1a][1b][1c]
Habitat
Maw-gruntas travel the plains of Ghur in immense stampedes. Anything in their path is either eaten, trampled, or bashed into dust and when a stampede enters a new environment, it swiftly tears down the existing ecosystem, uprooting trees and trampling hills flat. Should a stampede end up outside Ghur, either due to inadvertently barrelling through a realmgate or being led there intentionally by orruks, the maw-gruntas multiply frighteningly quickly in the absence of Ghurish super-predators.[1b][1d]
History
While orruks had long admired the thuggish belligerence of the maw-gruntas, it was not until the Era of the Beast that a particular kunnin' Ironjaw managed to think up a way to semi-reliably corral one into serving as a mount. When Krazogg Hornsplitta of the Ironsunz succeeded with his eponymous "manoova", the secret quickly spread between Ironjawz warclans, sparking a "revolushun" in Ironjawz military strategy and adding a terrifying new weapon to the orruk arsenal.[1a][1b]
